Product review: Harvest Box Health Bombs

I’m always cruising around the supermarket looking for new products to try. I like to keep up to date with the new products out there- its important to know what people eat right?! So far I’ve had some heavenly dip and some pretty average chocolates but when I saw this new product I knew I had to try it.

This nicely packaged snack caught my eye,  and I was curious to see what this snack was going to be like. The packaging feels nice in my hands, and the colour scheme is very eye catching.IMG_0894

Looking at the package I’m immediately put on guard. “Guilt Free Snacking” is stamped prominently at the top of the packet. As I’ve said before, unless you stole it, or murdered someone you do not need to feel guilty about eating. Period.

The claims on the label:

  • Natural
  • Cold Pressed
  • Superfood
  • No added sugar

Aside from the “no added sugar” claim, the claims on this packet don’t really mean anything.

Ingredients

Dates, Raisins, Cashews, Cacao, Whey Protein, Chia Seeds and Coconut

Nutrient breakdown

There is a mix of carbs, fats and proteins in this product, although I’m not sure if the ratio of these will keep me satisfied for very long.

Eating experience

When you put the Health Bomb in your mouth, you are met with a pleasant sweet taste and chewy texture. The texture is just right, its not too thick and pasty like some products with whey protein in them can be. The aftertaste is surprisingly bitter though, probably due to the the Cacao. I was surprised at this as there are quite a few ingredients in here that would contribute to a sweet taste.

The Health Bombs themselves are small and numerous and I felt that there was a generous amount of them in the packet. However, I got through about two thirds of the packet and wanted to stop eating. I’d had enough of the taste and texture and they just didn’t taste as nice as the first couple. Suspecting that I would be hungry soon after, I finished the packet, although I didn’t enjoy them as much. As you can see in the picture, I also had some strawberries.

Hunger levels

Even though I had some strawberries in addition to the health bombs, I was hungry less than an hour after I had my snack. And when I felt hungry it was quite sudden- in a feed me NOW kind of feeling. I wasn’t at home and I didn’t have any other food on me so it was a struggle to last until I got home to eat again.

Verdict

These Health Bombs were nice but I won’t be rushing out to buy them again anytime soon. At $2.50 a pop and for something that didn’t really fill me up I don’t see the value in buying these again.
